We are not going to talk Olympics anymore, that’s something in the far future, but Synchro Skating is evolving and getting more professional every year. What is your view on this matter? I think one of the reasons why we didn’t get to the Olympics is that the top is too narrow, there are too few countries where it is possible to train like Olympic athletes. Money is of course a big factor, if the costs were lower or if Synchro Skating had more sponsors or bigger support from the state/federations or unions, Teams could pay for the extra hours on ice - those hours needed to close the gap with the top teams. What I, and probably many coaches who are lacking the hours on the ice hope for, is that the ISU committee will slow down with the rule changes, especially with seniors. Many seasons the technical things they had learned during one season weren’t valid anymore the next, and this surely didn’t help to improve their skating skills because the tie needed to be used el­ sewhere. I however did welcome the changes for this season with the Artistic and Creative Elements and I hope ISU will stay on track in this direction. You did well in November at the competition in Belgium and that is quite early in the new season. That means you have a lot of time and potential to grow and do better towards Worlds in your own country. What are you aiming for at Junior Worlds? Top 10? We haven’t set any goals for ranking in the Worlds, at least not yet. I hope that my skaters can THE END RESULT IS NOT JUST IN OUR HANDS perform two clean programs and that they will enjoy their time on Swiss ice. The end result is not just in our hands, we know that the other teams also work as hard as they can to make good progress. But I trust that the good start to the season makes my skaters want even more than they thought would be possible this season.
