Sesto San Giovanni, also referred to as Italy’s Stal­ ingrad due to the strong historical presence of the Italian Communist Party and to its resistance to fascism in World War Two, is a commune in the Met­ ropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy, northern Italy and city of birth to former World Champion in Ice Dance (2001) Barbara Fusar-Poli. By the way, Sesto refers to the distance to Milan, being 6 miles. In 1995 the Spring Cup was held for the first time under ISU, IOC and Italian Skating Federation auspices and patronage of the Region of Lombardy, the province of Milan and the City of Sesto San Giovani. In that specific year, 4 years after Andrea Gilardi’s introduc­ tion of Synchronized Skating in Italy, the French Cup and the Spring Cup became the first competitions listed on the ISU’s list of International Competitions. But it wasn’t until the year 2000 before the Spring Cup moved fromMilan to Sesto San Giovanni. The Sesto San Giovanni Ice rink with a seating capacity of 3100 is called “PalaSesto” and was filled with over 4000 spectators for that event. So, don’t worry everybody is invited to join for the 25th birthday party of Spring Cup, there’s plenty of space. If you haven’t competed at this competition yet, you definitely should and not just because it’s such a great competition, no but because dozens of other reasons: • you’ll have the chance to visit one of the most beautiful cities in the World…Milan. • you’ll meet the friendly and enthusiastic staff that is responsible for Spring Cup. • you’ll get to eat the best Italian food and drink the finest Italian wine. • you’ll get to see the home Ice-rink to the famous and gracious Hot Shivers and their coach Andrea Gilardi. • you’ll have a chance to visit Galleria Campari, the famous Art museum. • you’ll certainly have to go shopping in the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
