SynchroNice / Fourth Edition / 2019
At the age of only four years old, Anamarija was to be found on the ice for the first time. It was love at first sight as she recalls. “I was especially interested in the beautiful dresses and all the glitter.” Like many, she started training figure skating at first, until after a couple of years discovered Synchronized Skating. Although skating is something everybody in Anamarija’s family likes to do, she could never per suade her parents to step on the ice. Nevertheless, they were very dedicated and supportive towards Anamarija’s skating career and took her to every single skating lesson when she was little. The rest of her family can’t wait for the winters to start. Her brothers and sisters skate as often as possible and by taking their kids along as well, the addictive ‘love for skating’ virus is passed on. Anamarija points out that she really believes she has her par ents to thank for everything because she wouldn’t have made it this far without them. She’s very grateful for all the op portunities given to her. When we ask Anamarija to tell us her biggest dream or goal, her eyes start to glisten, and her lips turn into a smile. My biggest dream is to become a coach. It would be great to be able to do professionally what I love to do anyway. That would be my ultimate full-time job, but Croatia is only a small country and unfortunately, we are the only Croatian Synchro nized Skating team on a National level. Therefore it will be tough to find employment in skating, but you asked me for my biggest dream and goal. Let us have a little peek in your social life, if there’s one at all. Yes, taking your training seriously and staying in shape for Synchro Skating, or any sport for that matter, sucks up an enormous lot of time and energy. So I miss out on most of my relative’s birthday parties and celebrations. You also rarely Anamarija was born on 25 August 1991 so, that makes her 27 years young now. Hometown Zagreb is where she was born and raised and luckily, she’s absolutely in love with ‘her’ big city. Anamarija’s head coach is Ozana Miljkovic . A familiar name? Yes, we published a beautiful article on her in last year’s SynchroNice Magazine. ´ During our stay in Zagreb, we met with the lovely Anamarija Kasic, also known as ‘Kaso’ or even ‘Grandma’ within her skating club, the Zagreb Snowflakes. ´ SYNCHRO NICE 117
